Historic Walking Tour
The River District tours are back on the calendar in 2021!
The next Historic Walking Tour is Thursday, September 9 starting at 5:30 p.m.
The tour begins at Ingersoll Park in Haight Village at the corner of First Street and Oak Street. The walking tour will view the variety of architectural styles from the 1840's to the 1950's that exist in the Haight Village and adjoining ORCHID neighborhoods. The tour will also talk about the people that lived there and how they influenced Rockford's development.
The tour will include the old Rockford College campus that is undergoing significant changes with the demolition of the Brewington Oaks towers. The walk will include the homes on Seminary Street and College Ave.
The walk is a little more than a mile in length. Wear comfortable shoes. Learn about Rockford's fascinating early history and its rich architectural heritage. Your tour host is River District board member and local architect Gary Anderson, a downtown resident and preservation advocate.
A $5 donation is greatly appreciated, but not required.
Reservations for all tours can be made via Eventbrite and be sure to RSVP on the River District Association Facebook page!
