Description

Law professor Kris Henning discusses her new book on discriminatory policing practices affecting Black children and ways to end it. Georgetown Law professor Kris Henning will speak about her new book, “The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth,” on Monday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the University of South Carolina School of Law. The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, and attendees are encouraged to register to reserve their seats. During the talk, Henning will discuss her research on the discriminatory and aggressive policing practices Black children are disproportionally subjected to, and what can be done to stop it. “It is essential that we treat ALL children like children—in our schools, in our communities, in our courts, and in our police reform efforts,” Henning says. “We should engage all Black youth with an open and loving heart so we can learn from them and witness their value, worth, and humanity. We all have a role changing harmful narratives about Black youth.” The School of Law enjoys a rich and venerable tradition as one of the nation's oldest law schools. Since 1867, we have remained true to our mission of teaching law through in-depth study, contributing to the common good through faculty and student research, bolstering the fund of legal knowledge, fostering legal development and reform, and cooperating with state government, the community, and the organized Bar to develop and implement legal research, law reform, criminal justice reform, and continuing legal education. The University of South Carolina School of Law provides unsurpassed preparation for leadership by graduating many future members of the state's judiciary, legislature, and executive agencies.
