Mushroom Hunting for Beginners (18 yrs and older)
This class is lead by a certified mushroom identification specialist and Quarry Hill Nature Center naturalist, Sammie Peterson. Sammie has over a decade of experience, professionally and personally, studying and teaching mycology.
This class is intended to be a general introduction for beginning mushroom hunters. A portion of the class will be learning the basics using real-life examples of common and safe edible fall mushrooms. Afterwards, bring your basket and head off-trail into the woods for a fungal foray. Discover where these mushrooms grow, examine their characteristics, and possibly collect some samples to bring home. *Mushroom collecting is not allowed in Rochester City Parks outside of this event.

Masks are required for the indoor portion. We encourage, but don't require masks while outdoors. Please keep socially distanced from other participants. Participants are asked to stay home if showing symptoms of Covid.

In the event of inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled. Participants will be contacted via EMAIL by 8am if program will be rescheduled.
