The Kentlands Film Society and Kentlands Community Foundation New Urbanism program, in cooperation with the City of Gaithersburg, invites you to a free screening of Finding Fellowship on September 24, 2021 at 7:00 PM on the Kentlands Clubhouse Lawn. The film will be followed by a short Q&A with the film’s filmmakers. ---- Just across Darnestown Road from Kentlands sits a charming church that holds a rich and fascinating history – one crafted with foresight, fortitude, and fellowship. Built in 1888, the Pleasant View Church with its white façade, pointed arched windows, and short steeple, is the center of what is now known as the Pleasant View Historical Site. Situated on three acres and purchased for just $54 by three former slaves in 1868, the Pleasant View Historical Site was once the center of the African American community of Quince Orchard, MD and continues to stand as a testament to history. Finding Fellowship, a documentary by Jason Green, Kisha Davis, MD, and Imani M. Cheers, tells the story of the Quince Orchard Community, its relationship to the Pleasant View Historical Site, and the power of people coming together to choose fellowship over division in a time when it was perhaps unpopular - an important message with resonance now. Today, the historical site needs funding to restore its buildings, preserve its history for future generations, and serve as a gathering space for educational and cultural programming.
