Teen Dies After Single-Vehicle Crash In Venice: FHP

VENICE, FL — A 15-year-old boy died after a single-vehicle crash in Venice Monday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The teen was a passenger in a Jeep Wrangler that was traveling northbound on Jackson Road approaching Batello Drive around 4:40 p.m. As the Jeep entered a slight curve, it drove off the roadway, struck the curb and entered the grassy shoulder, hitting an oak tree and overturning, FHP said. The teen was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarasota County EMS, FHP said. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate the incident.
