How You Can Help MOCO Residents Affected By Ida Storm Damage

ROCKVILLE, MD — As remnants of Hurricane Ida plowed through Maryland last week, some Montgomery County residents saw extreme flooding and storm damage. Families in Rockville were displaced from their homes, as water rushed into their apartments causing severe damage on Wednesday morning. To help families who have been pushed out of their homes by the floods, several community members organized fundraisers to help the families — some lost everything they own. Rockville Fundraisers Sharaya Jones made a fundraiser for her mom and little brother, who live in the Rock Creek Apartments that flooded last week. She says the flood destroyed their apartment and everything inside of it. So far, $6,900 have been raised on a $7,000 goal. Another family at the Rock Creek Apartments woke up last week when first responders opened their windows to pull them out of their flooding apartment. They lost everything they own in the flood, and a family member set up a fundraiser for them. She wrote that her mom, grandpa, my 10-year-old daughter and sister were in the apartment. They have raised about $3,600 of a $15,000 goal. Thomas and Mercedes Monje and their six-month-old daughter Alejandra escaped their flooded apartment last Wednesday, but everything they own was destroyed. The organizer of the fundraiser wrote about Thomas and Mercedes' hard work and kindness. They raised nearly $18,000. More Hurricane Ida Fundraisers The GoFundMe team created a page for all Hurricane Ida-related fundraisers last week. Many of the fundraisers dedicated to helping people affected by storm damage can be found here, a spokesperson for the company said. There is long-term fundraiser up for all hurricane relief efforts as well. It's used to support the creation of temporary shelters, distribution of food and water, and medical care.
