RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield Police Department has promoted Shawn Platt to the rank of major. Major Platt was sworn-in on Friday afternoon at Town Hall. Major Platt started began his career in Ridgefield as a patrol officer in 1996, a rank he held until 2001. He was promoted to detective, and served as youth officer, from 2001 to 2009. He moved up through the ranks from patrol sergeant (2009-2011), patrol lieutenant (2012-2019) and captain of the Division of Professional Standards (2019-2021). Platt has also served as the Accident Investigation Team commander Throughout his career, Platt has been very involved with the Ridgefield community, especially its youth. In 2002, he began the Junior Police Academy, and is also responsible for the Kids and Cops program, a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Ridgefield. Platt holds a degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Police Administration. He has been the recipient of the department's Exceptional Service Award, Unit Citation and Officer of the Year recognition.
