Man Charged With DWI In NY Crash That Killed Westfield Native

WESTFIELD, NJ — New York State Police said Tuesday that a 66-year-old man has been charged with DWI and other charges in connection with a car accident Saturday night that killed a young Westfield man and sent a Westfield woman to the hospital. On Saturday night, a vehicle driven by Dennis Ford of Saranac Lake, N.Y., was heading north in the southbound lane of a highway in Upstate New York, police say. It crashed into a vehicle head-on containing Westfield natives Matthew Huff and Lauren Huff, as well as a Massachusetts woman, according to police. Matthew G. Huff, 27, was killed, as was Kerry O'Reilly, 31, of Dorchester, Mass. Lauren Huff, 30, currently of Boston, was airlifted to the University of Vermont hospital. Lauren Huff was in stable condition as of Tuesday, police said. On Tuesday, the State Police in Queensbury, N.Y. charged 66-year-old Dennis M. Ford of Saranac Lake with aggravated vehicular homicide (a felony), vehicular assault 2nd degree (a felony) and Driving While Intoxicated (a misdemeanor). Ford was arraigned in Warren County Centralized Arraignment Part on Tuesday following his release from the hospital, police said. He was remanded without bail and is due in Chester Town Court on Sept. 14. The accident occurred in a part of Upsate New York around 18 miles north of Lake George.
