Spring ISD : Success Walk Scheduled For Sept. 11 To Encourage School Attendance And Engagement

Press release from Spring Independent School District: September 7, 2021 As Spring ISD begins their second month of the 2021-2022 school year, administrators, teachers, and community volunteers are reaching out to those students who may have not yet returned to class this year or who are struggling with attendance. The outreach is part of the district's EVERYday Counts, Attendance Matters campaign, which kicked off Tuesday with volunteers staffing a phone bank to call families and encourage them to return to in-person learning. The effort will culminate on Saturday, Sept. 11, with the district's annual Success Walk. That morning, volunteers will be out in neighborhoods throughout Spring ISD, talking to students and their families about the importance of coming to school, as well as to address any obstacles they may be facing this school year. "Over the past 18 months, one thing has become clear: Students need to be in school with their classmates every day, learning and growing," Superintendent Dr. Rodney E. Watson said. "The Success Walk and the phone bank are important parts of getting the message out there that we want our students back on campus where we can make sure they stay on track academically, as well as provide them any additional support they may need, including counseling." The Success Walk starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with a kickoff event at the School for International Studies at Bammel. Volunteers from all over the district will be participating with special priority given to finding seniors who may be at risk of not graduating on time. The Success Walk will spread out in neighborhoods throughout Spring ISD, and will end at 12 p.m. District leaders are also emphasizing the importance of in-person learning, with safety protocols in place to ensure the health of students, staff, and their families. "This school year, we are focused on providing the best in-person learning experience for all of our students and teachers," Watson said.
