Here's Wednesday's weather: Partly cloudy with afternoon & evening thunderstorms. High: 85 Low: 74. Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach: A 29-year-old man was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with a Labor Day shooting in Myrtle Beach. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of North Ocean Boulevard, just after midnight on Monday. As of the time of this publication, the man's bond hearing had not yet occurred. (WMBF)A man was found unresponsive in a swimming pool near Yorkshire Parkway in the Market Common neighborhood of Myrtle Beach on Labor Day morning. The 40-year-old man, Christopher Skinner, was brought to the hospital where he later died. Chief Deputy Coroner, Tamara Willard, declared that it was an accidental drowning. (WPDE)Elected officials from Horry County, Myrtle Beach, and North Myrtle Beach will be presenting their councils with a funding proposal regarding Interstate 73 for a vote later this month. The officials have been in discussions about funding the I-73 project for quite some time. The amount targeted for the project is around $250 million, and some of that cost may come from hospitality fees. Having an interstate highway in or near Myrtle Beach would significantly transform the entire Grand Strand area. (Myhorrynews) New COVID-19 quarantine guidelines are now in place for Horry County Schools. This means the five area schools that had gone virtual will be returning to in-person learning, earlier than planned. The new guidelines are dependent upon a number of factors, including where a student came into contact with a person who tested positive for the virus (at home, or at school), for example. (WMBF) The summer vacation season came to a close on the Grand Strand, and Horry County Fire officials report that this summer's calls for fire and rescue were unprecedented as compared to previous years. HCFR responded to over 50,000 calls, breaking records. The county has grown rapidly over the last few years, but especially after the pandemic prompted a surge of new residents and more housing developments being built. A new fire station will be opening at Red Bluff Road and Highway 22 to provide much needed coverage for the immediate area that has seen intense growth recently.
