NORRISTOWN, PA — In the wake of a destructive storm that has many Montgomery County residents scrambling to make repairs and getting the necessary paperwork in line, local officials are looking to make things a little bit easier. Residents who need a deed to their home due to damage from last week's storm can obtain one for free now in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds office said that they were providing certified copies of lost or destroyed deeds in an effort to expedite recovery from the storm. Records should be obtained from the county government and not other companies looking to capitalize on the storm. "Don't fall for third party companies who want to take advantage of you during this vulnerable time by charging you more to obtain a copy of you deed," Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg said in a statement. Residents have several options. They can call the Recorder of Deeds office at 610-278-3289. It's open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. They can also log in to the Recorder of Deeds online Public Access System and obtain a certified copy of their deed for $10.50.
