Description

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Do you have character? The City of Mission Viejo is calling on adults and students to come forward and join the city's Community of Character Committee. The committee was established in 2003 and works closely with Mission Viejo schools and the city itself to highlight monthly character traits such as perseverance, respect and fairness — to name a few. Members of the Community of Character Committee create "character posters" to distribute at schools and across the city. The committee also organizes events to showcase each monthly character trait, such as "Film of Character" movie screenings and a teen survival guide event for 8th grade students, according to the city. September's highlighted character trait is responsibility. If accepted into the committee, Mission Viejo students have the chance to beef up their resume while learning leadership and teamwork skills with other members of the community. Committee membership is open to Mission Viejo residents and students in grades 8-12. The Community of Character Committee meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at the City Hall Saddleback Room, with students starting at 5:30 p.m. and adult members joining at 6 p.m. For more information and the application, visit the city's website.
