GURNEE, IL — A 21-year-old is dead after a Sunday motorcycle crash outside Gurnee left the man and his motorcycle in a ditch, officials announced Monday. The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the motorcyclist Tuesday as Daniel McPherson, 21, of Round Lake Beach. The crash occurred Sunday at around 5:30 p.m. on Rollins Road, west of Route 45. When Lake County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they found McPherson and his 2006 Yamaha in a ditch south of the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a preliminary investigation shows the man was traveling eastbound on Rollins Road when he attempted to change lanes, catching the gravel shoulder. This caused him to lose control of the motorcycle and crash into the ditch. While the crash is still under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit, officials said McPherson was likely thrown from his motorcycle when it crashed. Earlier reports of the incident listed the motorcycle driver as a 19-year-old from Round Lake Beach.
