LOS ANGELES, CA — A crash sent a car plowing over the sidewalk and into a homeless encampment in the Koreatown area Tuesday morning, pinning one person beneath the wreckage. Los Angeles firefighters had to lift the car to free the trapped person, who was severely injured, said Los Angeles Police Department, Detective Meghan Aguilar. The victim, who was sleeping at the time of the crash, was transported to a hospital in moderate condition. Three people inside the vehicle were hospitalized in fair condition. The crash was reported about 6 a.m. in the 500 block of South Virgil Avenue at the intersection of West Fifth Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. There were two vehicles involved, said Aguilar. A white Dodger Dart was headed southbound on Virgil when it collided with a vehicle headed eastbound on West Fifth Street, she said. "The Dart lost control and ended up in the homeless encampment," Aguilar said. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The circumstances of the crash were under investigation Tuesday morning.
