'Blue,' The Social Injustice Play Is Coming To Detroit

DETROIT — The Michigan Opera Theater will present the play "Blue" at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Blue tells the story of a young African-American couple raising their son in modern-day Harlem, New York, amid racial protesting and police intimidation, while his father is a proud New York City Police Officer. As the mother attempts to make peace between the two, she struggles with her own thoughts in believing that their lives are at stake every day. Live in Detroit? Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times called the play elegant, and that "Thompson ... has written one of the most elegant librettos I've heard in a long time." The Michigan Opera Theater has required that face masks be wore by everyone attending the live performance, regardless of vaccination status. Tickets can be purchased at Michigan Opera Theatre.
