Press release from the Southampton History Museum: 2021-09-07 On September 6, 1781, a British force of 1,700 men under the command of the traitor Benedict Arnold, raided the towns of Groton and New London, Connecticut. The British left the towns in ashes, killing or wounding nearly 150 Americans in the process. One of the American's killed was Henry Halsey of Southampton.
