Description

Thanks everyone! I have soooo many emails to read and ask that you be patient while I sort them out and try to write everyone back. So I am marking as pending since there is already so much interest.*** Looking for the perfect new home for Piper! Have an opportunity to change careers which involves nightschool and wkend internship. Don't want my little princess to be neglected and left alone for the next 2 yrs. She is a 7 yr old Maltese, spayed and healthy. She sees the vet for regular checkups and vaccines - her vet is in Hull very close to 2 bridges to Ottawa. Piper has been housetrained for many years and has never had an accident in her adult life. She is a true lapdog and spends her days in her bed next to my desk and evenings on the couch. She enjoys walks and we take her out regularly. She sleeps in her own bed in my room at night and will sleep 9 hours with no problem. She has never lived with other pets and I'm not sure how she would adjust. She doesn't mind visiting the neighbours' dogs and isn't aggressive with them, but they're all larger than her. Piper should not be around young children as their quick movements excite her and she will chase and nip their ankles. My own children are grown with only 1 left at home. Piper is quiet most of the time, but barks when someone comes to the door or she sees dogs or horses on tv. Her bark is extremely loud and high pitched!!! It will startle you if you aren't expecting it! And it will actually hurt your ears. Being a highly intelligent dog, I expect that this could be corrected with the proper training. I admit that I should've tried harder to correct this behaviour. We currently live in a condo and she barks occassionally, but not anything that has disrupted the neighbours. Before telework, I suspect she slept most of the day like she does now. Piper is a healthy dog with no medical issues. She had her teeth cleaned in Feb as tartar buildup can be a problem in toy dogs. She weighs about 7 pounds and eats less than a cup of food a day so a bag lasts about 6 months. I cut her nails every 2 weeks when I bathe her as they grow quickly and she doesn't like slipping on the hardwood floors. She is too light to scratch the floors and we have had the same leather couch for 12 years without scratches or marks. She has never chewed furniture or shoes. Maltese have no undercoat and their fur can grow long and silky. I keep Piper's short because it mats easily when long. But i don't shave her because she has pink skin that sunburns easily. I just prop her up on the counter every few weeks and trim her coat with scissors. I also use a comb to keep her eyes clean and that way she has no stains around them. Piper is scared of thunderstorms and will tremble fiercely. We usually swaddle her and hold her close until they pass. She has a basket of toys but only plays with her 2-3 favourites. She will come with her 3 little beds, a harness and leash and a couple little coats that she hates wearing. Lol! I think I also have a travel cage in the shed from a trip a few yrs ago. The reason I am asking for money is to deter any covid resellers. What I really want is to find her a forever home where she will be spoiled like I have been doing for 7 years! I got her in 2014 when she was 8 wks old and her mom and dad were both sweet purebred Maltese who only had one litter of 2 pups. Piper was spayed at 6 months of age. Please write and tell me a bit about your home and family if you're interested. It may take me some time to read the applications, but I will do my best to reply to your emails promptly! Thanks so much!
