I think folks should make music where and when they feel like it. Our thoughts about commercial prospects are insignificant compared to one honest tune.
Just cuz you never made a car payment with music wages doesn't mean you have to hide in a basement to play. I've been an 'amateur' for 40 years now. I can and often do help people dance, sing, and smile. If I had to wait for a venue to pay me $200 I couldn't.
And shame on anyone that listens to someone busk for more than 30 seconds without reaching into a pocket. Share your lives - it is what we have!
