Students will discover and breakdown complex global problems, innovate new solutions, and design a business plan to launch a startup. The GW Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship in partnership with Ycenter presents the Jumpstart: Global Innovation Bootcamp an experiential and interactive bootcamp focusing on global innovation and problem-solving. Over the course of one day, students will discover and break down complex global problems, innovate new solutions, and design a business plan to launch a new company, startup, nonprofit, or social and civic enterprise. Participants will interact via video chat with international changemakers to help ground participants in global challenges spanning the globe. OverviewThis experiential and interactive bootcamp exposes students to the tools, tactics, and frameworks used by innovators and entrepreneurs to create new startups, businesses, and social enterprises in a global context using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The bootcamp will dive into design thinking as a way to help students frame problems and create solutions. to problems like social and environmental issues and provide impactful solutions in the US and internationally. Through the course of one day, Students will learn, ideate, build and explore new ways to solve real problems using the power of business methods. The modules include principles of Complex Problem Solving, Human-Centered Design, Creativity and Innovation exercises, Empathy Building for Customers and Business Model Canvas for very early-stage ideas and startups. You do not need to have a team to participate in this event or have an idea, just a problem you would like to solve. Individuals and teams are both welcome to attend. FoodLunch will be provided for all participants (vegetarian options will be available). Why participateThis bootcamp is for those who are interested in global problem solving and/or those who have an idea for a start-up, social enterprise, or business working outside the US and are in the early stages of exploring their own innovations, ideas, and social enterprises to tackle a global challenge. No prior experience is necessary to attend. If you’re interested in getting constructive feedback on your ideas, gain practical problem-solving skills, and an opportunity to learn from the best innovators and entrepreneurs working in the US and internationally, this is for you. International students are encouraged to attend. Plus, learn human-centered design thinking to launch your new enterprise. Human-centered design takes you through the journey of understanding problems, Empathy building for your customers, Analogous Thinking for Creativity and finally Business Model for your best idea. They have created and delivered hands-on workshops for entrepreneurs in 15+ countries across four continents. From working on social ventures in Africa to developing technology-driven apps in the U.S. and India. About the FacilitatorDhairya Pujara is the Founder, CEO at Ycenter, he is responsible for building a global ecosystem bringing in corporates, universities, NGOs for creating experiential educational programs. Dhairya is the curator for "Global Shaper Hub Philadelphia" by World Economic Forum. He has been a global TEDx organizer and a sought-after public speaker on entrepreneurship and international development. He delivers keynote and guest lectures in some of the top business schools and conferences around the globe. Dhairya sits on the advisory board for European Commission program LASIN - Latin American Social Innovation network and a National Board member at Social Enterprise Alliance. In 2015, American Immigration granted him an approval for a special category work visa reserved for "an individual of extraordinary abilities”. He received his Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University. Limited AvailabilityThis workshop is limited to 30 GW student participants only. We will create a waitlist after 30 people RSVP. How to Get to the GW I+E LabThe GW I+E Lab is located in Heyday Workplace on the 7th floor at the 2000 Penn building. Upon arrival to the 2000 Penn building, guests need to locate the main office lobby in the central area of the 1st floor. Guests will know they are in the right location once they see the security guard desk and a bank of elevators. Please notify the security guard that you are going to an event on the 7th floor in the Heyday Workplace, and they will let you up the elevators. Please note that this is an in-person event. Event participants may be required to wear masks or other PPEs depending on event space protocols. IMPORTANT: All GW students, staff, and faculty must bring and present their GWorld card. You will not be let into the event without proof of your GW affiliation via your GWorld card.
