Join NYC Parks Arts, Culture & Fun, and the Jazz Foundation of America for a jazz concert with the amazing Lakecia Benjamin and Pursuance.
Voted 2020's Rising Star Alto Saxophonist in the Downbeat Critics' Poll, and Up-and-Coming Artist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association, Lakecia Benjamin fuses traditional conceptions of jazz, hip hop, and soul. An accomplished performer who has worked with major acts like Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, The Roots, David Murray and Macy Gray, her recent achievements as a bandleader have met high acclaim, especially her poignant latest album, Pursuance: The Coltranes. The touring quartet version of Pursuance has been heating up stages on both sides of the Atlantic, and joins us for this special event on the occasion of John Coltrane's birthday.
With an opening set by percussion great Baba Don Babatunde.
