The Sister Cities program has been a part of Kansas City’s international outreach since 1967, with the establishment, this same year, of the first Kansas City Sister City, Seville. Sister Cities Association became a 501(c)(3) membership organization in 1981. It is an Association that supports and promotes cooperation and understanding for innovative programs in commerce, tourism, education and cultural awareness.
Kansas Citians, through the Sister Cities program, have helped to build strong relationships between cities around the world in citizen exchanges, economic and educational programs, and cultural activities. The KCMO International Office coordinated the Mayor's Sister Cities Commission to support this important work.
