Join your neighbors, and make new friends at Maheras-Gentry on September 18! Learn about the impact of litter and pick some up! Plastic Oceans International is hosting a litter cleanup along the Detroit River in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day. We’ll be picking up trash and debris at Detroit's Maheras-Gentry Park for two hours. We'll collect the litter and weigh it to quantify our impact. Joining us for the cleanup will be our friends from Green Living Science and The Social Forestry Project. Water, snacks, gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer will be available to all volunteers. We'll have FREE bamboo toothbrushes to give away, while supplies last, in addition to some great prizes to given away to five randomly selected volunteers. PLUS you'll also learn about the history of Maheras-Gentry park, as well as the impact plastic pollution has on the Detroit River and Great Lakes Basin. We've already picked up over 30,000 pounds of litter this year, across over 50 million square feet of coastline. Come out and help us make an even bigger impact!
