A comprehensive class featuring firearms and defense basics along with Florida Law. CAUTION: If you have NEVER fired a gun before and are anxious about doing so, it is recommended that you FIRST take the First Time Holding A Gun Class. It will help you get comfortable holding, using and understanding a firearm. Please find it on the calendar at www.halloffameSTEP.org. It is offered monthly. The Handgun Defense Fundamentals and Concealed Carry class is perfect for inexperienced shooters who want to learn more about defending themselves and using a firearm, and understand the responsibilities that come with gun ownership, or more frequent shooters who want to secure their concealed carry license and refresh their skills at the same time.  The class includes 3 hours of classroom time followed by 60-90 minutes of range time, after which you will be given a certificate that will allow you to get your concealed carry license (assuming you have shown the appropriate level of comfort and proficiency). Content includes: Basics of safe gun handling;Proper technique for grip, slide racking, magazine loading, target shooting, basic personal defense;Various types of handguns -- advantages and disadvantages;Carrying and Storage of a firearm;Understanding the dynamics of a personal defense encounter; Selecting the right handgun for your needs.Class is $60. Tickets are refundable in the event you cannot attend, but a service-charge will be deducted. Tickets can also be moved to a different date at no additional cost. 12 students per class, maximum. The class is geared toward male or female shooters and is taught by the Author of The Handgun Guide for Women. Books will be available for sale the day of the class. Guns available to rent include: .22, .380, 9 mm, .40 and .45. Rental is covered in the class fee, but you WILL need to buy ammo if you are renting a gun...and you will need to BRING ammo if you are bringing your own gun.  It is PREFERRED that you qualify with the firearm that you plan to carry. If you are bringing your own gun to shoot and/or qualify for a CCL with, please bring at least 25 rounds of ammunition. If you plan to rent a gun, ammunition will be available for sale the day of the class. If you have "eyes and ears" (shooting glasses and ear muffs), please bring them.
