Nashua Man Arrested On Rape, Strangulation Charges

NASHUA, NH — A transient in Nashua is facing felony rape and assault charges after an incident reported to police in mid-August. According to Nashua police, a complainant met with an officer on Aug. 15 to report a sexual assault and physical assault accusation that occurred in the Gate City. The victim and the suspect knew each other, according to Sgt. Eric Boutwell of the Nashua Police Department. After the initial report was filed, detectives in the special investigations division furthered the case. On Saturday, Richard Theriault, 51, of no fixed address in Nashua, was arrested and charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault and second-degree assault-strangulation charges, both felonies, as well as sexual assault and two counts of simple assault.
