DARIEN, IL — Last week, Darien saw its number of weekly coronavirus cases level off, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,911 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 22 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 23 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths rose by one in the last week, to 23. Previous to that, the number had not changed for months. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. The figure compares to 95 in La Grange Park, 99 in DuPage County and Hinsdale, 103 in Elmhurst, 109 in Western Springs, 109 in Clarendon Hills and suburban Cook County, 112 in Burr Ridge and 128 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,538,324, up 2 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,067. Nationally, 39.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2.9 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 634,858 people have died from the virus in the United States.
