Description
Community workdays at the Historic Orchard are back on!! Come help us in our orchard revitalization! Minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old. Chaperones are required age 15 and under. Our Historic Orchard has been going through the process of preparing it for new trees. An orchards typical life is about 20-25 years, and the current orchard was planted in 1994 (26 years ago!). The trees were not producing any longer and suffering from disease and parasites. We have removed a number of trees to make way for varieties that will be better adapted for our current and future climate. (Don't worry, we are keeping a few of the remaining trees because they are healthy). We are looking for volunteers to help us with the revitalization of the orchard. These workdays will focus on litter removal in and around the orchard, pulling and removal of weeds, minor repairs to infrastructure as needed, and generalized care and maintenance of the orchard itself. We will meet at the picnic area. We know many are anxious to help our parks these days, please join us as we practice safe measures of volunteerism. Air quality projected to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups" or rain cancels the event. We will be adhering to State and County Public Health recommendations and guidelines. In addition, please note that: You must bring your own work gloves suitable for working in a garden, we are unable to provide any. Leather gloves are highly recommended! Please bring a full water bottle (the water fountain will be unavailable). The restrooms will not be available for use.Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:00am for a contact-less sign-in, workday instructions will follow. We will be providing some tools, but if you have hand pruners and/or loppers to bring, even better! The work will begin at 9:00am running through 11:30am, or when it gets to be too hot (seasonal). School groups or corporate teams must contact the volunteer coordinator to schedule events. Ticket limit is 3. Minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old. Chaperones are required age 15 and under. Air quality projected to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups" or rain cancels the event. The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy is a non-profit partner of the City of San Jose.
