Description

An evening raising funds for suicide prevention training in the City of Detroit. Suicide is an epidemic that has claimed far too many lives and destroyed too many families in our community. The Covid-19 pandemic has made it even more difficult for reach those most at risk with the help they need. The 2021 Reach for Hope benefit is dedicated to changing that by raising funds for suicide prevention training in Detroit. "A Single Soul", a suicide prevention program housed at Jewish Family Service, has partnered with Black Family Development in the City of Detroit to offer suicide prevention training. Each training teaches participants of all ages how to identify those who are at risk and ways to connect them to crucial support. The October 21st event, hosted by Fox2's Lee Thomas, will feature a Detroit performance of the critically acclaimed play "Right Before I Go" starring actor Hill Harper and written by "Golden Girls"and "Gilmore Girls" writer Stan Zimmerman. This poignant, deeply moving, and surprisingly light play invokes a raw and authentic approach to storytelling to help broaden public perspection of suicide, eliminate the stigma associated with depression, and strengthen the relationship between survivors and those struggling every day. Please join us for a great evening for a great cause!
