Ocean City Firefighters Aid Water Rescues In NJ Floods

OCEAN CITY, NJ — As remnants of Tropical Storm Ida caused historic destruction throughout New Jersey, several Ocean City firefighters were there to help. Firefighters assigned to the Cape May County Regional Urban Search Team (RUST) team were deployed to various scenes throughout the state this week to aid with post-storm emergency responses. The Ocean City Firefighters Association posted photos on social media of members on the scene in those areas: During the height of Ida's wrath on Wednesday, vehicles were submerged in flooded streets and first responders made multiple water rescues across the state. As of Friday morning, the official death toll has risen to 25 in New Jersey, the highest reported total in any state. Investigators with the National Weather Service have confirmed seven tornadoes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania following Tropical Storm Ida on Wednesday that slammed the northeast, marking one of the most dramatic and severe storms in regional history. In the Garden State, meteorologists from Mount Holly have determined that three tornadoes struck Burlington, Mercer and Gloucester counties during the weather event.
