Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: New Joseph Bonnheim, a charter school near Tahoe Park, tested all staff and students for COVID-19 on Friday after nearly 2 dozen COVID cases were reported at the school. The order for mandated testing to prevent further spread came from Sacramento County Public Health. It is likely the transmission happened off campus, County health officials said. (CBS Sacramento)Have an awesome Labor Day Weekend, Sacramento! But be aware of the rules at parks and recreation areas that change for the holiday weekend. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 6, possession of alcohol is prohibited on the shore and river of the American River, and other parks where posted within Sacramento County Regional Parks' jurisdiction. The prohibition includes open or closed alcoholic beverages. Also, the number of visitors to Regional Parks increases dramatically during holiday weekends, which increases the cost to staff and maintain the parks. In order to offset these costs and provide maximum staffing and enforcement, the vehicle entrance fee will increase. (Saccounty.net) A man has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of Rocklin resident Cameron Gabriel on July 25. Damon Allen Benson, 29, of Rancho Cordova, was booked into the Placer County Jail on charges related to the homicide. Rocklin police said the Rancho Cordova Police Department shared information in early August that led investigators to a witness of the homicide. According to authorities, the investigation remains ongoing and if you have any information please contact the Rocklin Police Department. (CBS Sacramento)Elk Grove's Kyle Larson, NASCAR's regular season champion, is set to enter the playoffs this weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. It's been a comeback story for Larson this year, but after signing with Hendrick Motorsports, like another Northern California native, Jeff Gordon, he is now the favorite to win the cup. The first of the 10 playoff races on NASCAR's schedule happens this Sunday afternoon in Darlington, South Carolina. (FOX40) The family of Kiflit Ghebremariam, 78, who went missing in Elk Grove in early August, is organizing a community search for him this weekend. It is believed that Ghebremariam walked away from his home on East Taron Drive. The community search will meet at Oasis Park on Poppy Ridge Road. The search will go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone in the immediate areas, and adjacent to the city limits, are asked to walk their neighborhood, local shopping centers and other locations. If you have seen Ghebremariam or have information, you are asked to call police at 916-714-5115. In addition to amazing art, there will also be 42 local vendors, 13 places to eat and drink, and nearly 70 musicians and performance groups of all varieties.
