Description
MARINE CORPS LANCE CPL.
Jared M. Schmitz, 20
St. Charles, Missouri
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz grew up in the St.
Louis area and was among a group of Marines sent back to Afghanistan to assist with evacuation efforts, his father, Mark Schmitz, told KMOX Radio.
Mark Schmitz said his son always wanted to be a Marine. He said he learned of his son’s death when the Marines came to his home in Wentzville, Missouri, at 2:40 a.m. on Friday.
When Schmitz wasn’t overseas on a mission fighting for freedom and civil rights as the U.S. Marine he always longed to be, he could be found waiting at a bus stop to walk his 9-year-old special needs sister home. “They were particularly close,” said Jared’s father, Mark Schmitz. “She worshipped the ground he walked on. I'm very honored that I could call him my son."
His life gone because of incompetence. His service and legacy will not be forgotten.
