Description

Please bear with me as I potentially ramble, but also try to cover a lot of fairly basic ground. I'm a 40ish white dude who has played bass for 25 years. I was largely self-taught by listening to Led Zeppelin and just imitating John Paul Jones, but later took lessons, played in some punk bands. I am always jamming on Curtis Mayfield songs, or reggae bass lines on my own but I have never played in a group along the lines of the funk/soul/R&B stuff I love. Think of the Cure's Fascination Street, how it builds without vocals for like 3 mins? Or the first two mins of Papa Was a Rolling Stone, before the vocals? Perfection. Ever hear Creedence go off for like 8 mins during 'I Heard it Through the Grapevine? Marvelous. Or the beautiful simplicity of Velvet Underground's "Oh Sweet Nuthin?" I don't have a trove of songs written, but I adapt very quickly and hope to find other players with whom to collaborate and write new material. I love the Sound of Philadelphia bands from the 70s and would love to somehow incorporate that type of sound into something modern. Doesn't mean we need to have several singers in powder blue suits doing choreographed spins, but guess what? That could actually be pretty cool. I suppose in real terms, I would be looking for a drummer, a guitarist, keys, maybe a saxophone or trumpet player and even possibly a few vocalists, male and female. Not rushing things but would love to get a group together and practice at least weekly and try to build a serious sound. Then we can worry about playing out. Everyone on here talking about touring and playing weddings, etc. Let's make sure we groove first. If this sounds at all appealing or you have similar references and would like to talk further or even try to play, please get in touch. Thanks for your consideration. Below please find a link of Lou Reed playing Sweet Jane in Paris in 1974. The first two mins is just the band jamming an intro, but they are so tight and awesome. If you feel this vibe at all, I really would love to hear from you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc26EFI1_nw Peace, love and soul....
