DODD Subcutaneous Insulin Injection and Injectables for Metabolic Glycemic Disorders - Continuing Education Course Date/Time: Course to be presented over 1 hour 1:00PM-2:00P Instructor(s): Cynthia Swanson, RN Course Description: The purpose of the DODD Medication Certification Category 3 Continuing Education class is to meet the need of the annual 1 hour education requirement necessary to renew Medication Certification 3. Content will discuss the 2 types of diabetes, signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, actions to take in emergency situations including the administration of glucagon, different types of insulin and peak times, and insulin administration techniques Criteria or Successful completion of this course • Attend class in entirety • Participate in all class activities • Successfully perform return demonstrations of insulin/glucagon injection preparation and administration, inhaled insulin and glucometer procedure. • Submit an evaluation of course Requirements • Current Medication Certification 1 • Medication Certification 3 that is not beyond 60 calendar days of expiration • Completed DODD application which verifies that applicant is employed by an agency provider or is an independent provider, is at least 18 years of age, has a high school diploma/GED, completed criminal background checks without offenses • DODD application must be submitted to Nurse Educator at least 5 days prior to class. • Agency representative must complete page one of application • Page two must be completed by student.
