In Your Backyard: chemical run-off from the factory site drained into the drinking water and eventually into Country Pond. Kingston resident Dannielle Genovese will share some of her memories of the Ottati & Goss-Kingston Steel Drum (known to locals as "the barrel factory.”) Kingston Steel Drum cleaned and reconditioned barrel drums for many different industries. Workers handled barrels of paint, motor oil and pesticides. In 1983, the Federal government shut it down. The site is still a designated "Superfund Hazardous-Waste Site," and the Environmental Protection Agency continues to monitor this "hot-spot" today.
