Bike About Shasta: Diestelhorst to Downtown Trail
About the Series: Join us for beginner friendly rides to learn how to explore your neighborhood and community by bike! Whether you want to do a quick errand by bike, ride to school or work, or just get out to enjoy nature, these rides are for you! The rides in this series will feature safety tips for riding in traffic, let you experience the comfort of riding in a group, and familiarize you to routes that may be different from motor vehicle routes. All rides are under five miles. We will provide a bike pump, so if your tires need air, come a little early. Rides are limited to 10 people so you must sign up and helmets are required. Physical distancing will be practiced. Riders will get a bike safety light and be entered into a drawing for other prizes. Ride will be cancelled if AQI is 150 or greater in the vicinity of the ride start 1 hour before the ride begins. https://www.purpleair.com/map?opt=1/mAQI/a10/cC0&select=82269#14.73/40.58562/-122.39778
About the Ride: Experience the newly opened Diestelhorst to Downtown Trail with us! Meet at Chain Gang Bike Shop at 6pm and we will hop on the new Diestelhorst to Downtown bikeway. First we will head east on Trinity Street and ride low traffic streets to the Sundial Bridge. We will cross the bridge and ride along the Sacramento River Trail. Then we'll cross the river on the historic Diestelhorst Bridge and experience the new Diestelhorst to Downtown State of the art trail right back to Chain Gang. Ride is about 5 miles with one short hill climb. A great for beginners! This ride is coordinated by the Shasta Bike Month Workgroup and hosted by our friends at Chain Gang Bike Shop and Caltrans.
