Description

Cahokia: SocialTech + Artspace GRAND OPENING. The First Indigenous-Led ArtSpace and First Indigenous-Women Owned Gallery in Arizona. We invite you to experience Arizona’s first Indigenous womxn-owned art gallery and the nation's first Indigenous womxn-led art and socialtech space in the country. Cahokia provides a space for its members to express curated perspectives, concepts and designs, providing resources such as an art gallery, remote work areas, a meeting room, retail space, rotating events, a podcast recording studio and more. “Cahokia” refers to a real place and time in history, referencing an Indigenous urban city in pre-colonized times. At its peak, Cahokia was the largest city ever built north of Mexico, spanning over 6 square miles. The city was rich in Algonquian languages, aboriginal culture and expansive trade routes. Cahokia’s grand opening is on Monday, October 11th. The opening aligns with Indigenous Peoples’ Day, an official state holiday. This day focuses on the power and prominence of Indigenous voices, and reclaiming space to provide access and inclusion to this land’s first inhabitants.
