NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Mayor Noam Bramson has issued an update on the recovery from Post Tropical Cyclone Ida and released news about two big events planned for the upcoming holiday weekend. Bramson said New Rochelle is advocating for a federal disaster declaration and will share information about potential assistance, if a declaration is ordered. For now, he said residents are encouraged to document losses by taking photos and keeping receipts. While the city remains primarily focused on ongoing storm recovery efforts, the annual fireworks display, postponed from July 4, will take place Friday night at the New Rochelle waterfront. "The Fireworks by Grucci begin at 9:30pm this evening, with good viewing from Hudson and Five Islands Parks," Bramson said. "Just before and after the fireworks, nearby streets will be closed to cars so that pedestrians can walk safely, and parking in the area will be limited, so please plan ahead. This event will follow the CDC's safety guidelines. We strongly encourage residents to wear a mask and, of course, to get vaccinated." The lighted boat parade, however, scheduled for Saturday night has been canceled because of storm impacts. The mayor said all local roads are now clear and passable. About half of those impacted by power outages have had electricity restored as of early Friday afternoon. Due to the storm, bulk trash can be placed curbside for pickup on Tuesday in the North End and Wednesday in the South End. Please note that some items, such as refrigerators, electronics, and bulk metal require special arrangements or scheduled pickups. Information on large item pickups can be found on the RecycleRight portal or by calling 914-235-4654.
