Description
FAIRFAX, CA — Fairfax really, really likes outdoor dining.
That's according to the newly released findings of a survey the town issued last month seeking public input on the program that's been a lifeline for local businesses amid the pandemic.
Residents, businesses, and visitors all expressed overwhelming support for the program, according to the survey.
Town staff released the survey's findings at Wednesday's council meeting with a recommendation that the governing body make outdoor dining permanent.
The town reported 987 respondents to the survey (37 businesses, 740 residents and 210 visitors).
Proponents of making outdoor dining permanent got the backing of 89.25 percent of residents with 656 "yes" votes against 79 who voted "no."
The proposal garnered the support of 86.11 percent of participating businesses (31 to 5) and a whopping 98.53 percent of visitors (201-3).
"The overwhelming feedback is a welcome surprise and shows tremendous support for keeping outdoor dining options in Fairfax," town staff wrote in a summary of the survey's findings.
