Description

SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo is looking for donations for a Fallen Heroes Memorial to be built in Central Park. Approved by the City Council in May, the memorial seeks to honor fallen heroes and veterans and serve as a place for San Mateo residents to remember those who gave their lives on behalf of their country. The city council donated $25,000 to construct the memorial, with a matching gift of an additional $25,000. The construction estimate for the memorial is approximately $300,000, according to the city, which plans to fundraise for the amount. Sponsorships begin at $5,000. Packages are also available at $10,000, $15,000 and $25,000. For the $5,000 package, donors will receive acknowledgement of support at the memorial site, promotional material for their company, participation in groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies and photo opportunities with military and public safety leadership. The memorial will feature seven reflective stainless-steel monuments with engraved names, designed to unite to form a remembrance poppy when viewed from a certain angle. The base of the memorial will have flush-mount lighting to illuminate the names. The public can also sit on two granite benches. Click here for more details on donating to the memorial.
