Description

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth's Fairview Lane is once again passable, less than a day after heavy rainfall caused the roadway to collapse. Drivers are asked to avoid the area again Friday to allow construction to continue. About 12 hours after the initial collapse, the road was made passable for emergency vehicles, police said. Throughout Thursday afternoon, construction crews worked to remove the broken pieces of roadway and lay down gravel to fill in the sunken area. Because there is still a lot of work left to do, police asked drivers and residents to avoid the area Friday. "If you can please avoid the area, it will make repairs to the roadway go by a lot quicker," police said. "The constant flow of vehicles in and out of the site make it hazardous to the curious, general public." Read more: Portsmouth Road Destroyed By Ida Flooding
