Update, 8:41 p.m.: I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) has reopened in both directions between South Street and Interstate 676 (Vine Street Expressway) in Center City Philadelphia. Previous story: PHILADELPHIA, PA — More than 40 state highways across southeastern Pennsylvania, including eastbound I- 76 and I-676 in Philadelphia, remain closed following Wednesday's flash flooding. Motorists should also watch for ponding on roadways and flooding in poor drainage areas while traveling. PennDOT is warning motorists not to drive across roads covered with water because "even shallow, swiftly flowing water can wash a car from a roadway. Also, the roadbed may not be intact under the water."
