Contra Costa Sheriff Deploys Teams To Dixie Fire

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Personnel with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, Concord Police Department and East Bay Regional Park Police District have been serving on the front lines of the Dixie Fire in Plumas and Lassen counties. They are conducting patrols, providing security for the devastated areas, and assisting with evacuations as needed. The Dixie Fire was 859,457 acres and 55 percent contained Thursday morning. The wildfire is burning in five counties and has destroyed more than 1,200 structures, including nearly 700 single-family homes. The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office is currently in its third multi-day deployment at the fire, sheriff's Spokesperson Jimmy Lee said Thursday. The teams from Contra Costa — made up of deputy sheriffs, officers from the Concord Police Department and officers from the East Bay Regional Park Police District— are among many public safety agencies providing mutual law enforcement aid to the Plumas County Sheriff's Office and Lassen County Sheriff's Office in response to the massive wildfire. "Mutual aid in California is a system that allows one county to assist another," Contra Costa Sheriff David Livingston said. "We are proud to be of service and it is our way to help devastated communities in Lassen and Plumas counties as they cope with this disaster."
