ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a woman followed by a man, inappropriate comments, a missing motor scooter, a library incident, a bitten postal carrier, an intoxicated hotel guest and a gift card scam. Here is information from the latest police reports: Woman followed A woman reported that a man followed her around different grocery stores, including Whole Foods Market, 215 S. Route 83, on Sunday afternoon. While at one of the stores, he did not appear to make a purchase before leaving the store toward Route 83. The man did not approach the woman or engage in conversation with her. Inappropriate comments A resident said a group of older youths made inappropriate comments to her 9-year-old son about 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of East Crescent Avenue. An officer spoke with one of the youths, who said he did not recall speaking with a younger child. He said his friends use foul language with each other, but not others, especially younger children. Car part stolen A catalytic converter was stolen from a car about 1 p.m. Sunday while it was parked behind a business in the 900 block of Riverside Drive. An investigation is pending. Metals in catalytic converters have become a lot more valuable over the last year. Motor scooter missing A resident on Maple Tree Court told police that his Vespa motor scooter went missing between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday. He said he parked it by the sidewalk leading to the pool of the apartment complex. An investigation is pending. Library incident Officers went to the Elmhurst Public Library for a request to remove a person about 3 p.m. Monday. The man was served with a no-trespass notice. Postal carrier bitten A postal carrier was bitten by a dog about 4:30 p.m. Monday at a house in the 700 block of South Benton Court. An officer met with the carrier at Elmhurst Hospital. She said she suffered a puncture mark on her left calf. The case was referred to DuPage County Animal Control. Intoxicated guest Extended Stay America hotel, 550 Grand Ave., called police to check on the well-being of a guest about noon Tuesday. The guest, who had failed to check out, appeared highly intoxicated. Medics arrived and took the person to Elmhurst Hospital. Bike theft A bicycle was stolen from a bike rack between 7 a.m. and noon Wednesday on the west side of Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. The owner believed he secured the bike, but stated the bike rack was in poor condition. Gift card scam A person in the 200 block of East Butterfield Road told police she received an email from a friend Tuesday requesting that she buy two gift cards and provide her the card numbers. The person complied with the request, but later discovered her friend's account had been hacked and that her email was sent to someone else.
