SANTA ROSA, CA — An electrical fire at a Santa Rosa gas station sent black smoke throughout the area but firefighters were able to limit the damage to a storage shed, the Santa Rosa Fire Department said. Shortly after 4 p.m. Friday, firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at a 76 gas station at 3230 Coffey Lane, Santa Rosa FD Battalion Chief Jason Jenkins said. The first engine crew was on scene in under 2 minutes and found a storage shed on fire, with flames extending up the exterior wall of the gas station. "Additional resources were requested to assist with fire attack and to make sure the fire didn't extend into the main building," Jenkins said. "Firefighters stretched hoses for fire attack as black smoke could be seen throughout the area." Firefighters extinguished the blaze while interior crews made sure the main building and attic were clear. The fire was contained within 20 minutes. "Firefighters also secured the area as live powerlines that came down due to the fire," Jenkins said. "PG&E arrived shortly after and secured the power." Damage was estimated at $50,000. There was no damage to the main area of the business but merchandise in the shed was lost. "The fire was electrical in nature and continues to be investigated by the Santa Rosa Fire Department," Jenkins said. Investigators remained on scene Friday evening and were working with the property owners to secure the building.
