JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, the HVACR Technician performs a variety of skilled tasks in the installation/maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment and energy management systems installed in walk-in coolers and freezers. A large segment of the work responsibilities is focused on installation and preventative maintenance changing air filters, belts, equipment lubrication, cleaning coils and monitoring refrigerant levels. The balance of the work is spent monitoring electronic digital direct control systems, adjusting heating/cooling schedules, inventory management, supply ordering, diagnostic troubleshooting and equipment installations/replacements. The position requires working with refrigeration equipment, and other ventilation and heating/cooling systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Installs, repairs, adjusts, maintains and troubleshoots heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigerant distribution equipment and systems to optimize energy use. 2. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance for all HVACR equipment, including but not limited to filter changes, cleaning condensers and coils, lubrication of motors and bearings, and adjusting/changing belts. 3. Installs, maintains and repairs computerized electronic pneumatic and digital direct control devices related to HVACR and heat control. 4. Diagnoses mechanical and electrical malfunctions. Repairs, replaces and calibrates controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring. 5. Relocates and expands existing HVACR systems as needed. 6. Inspects and observes pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of units and makes necessary adjustments. 7. Maintains chilled and hot water supply systems. 8. Inspects and services refrigeration equipment, including VRV systems, refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs and heat pumps. 9. Determines amount of airflow required to maintain safe carbon dioxide levels. 10. Adjusts and maintains internal electrical and electronic control systems. 11. Fabricates, assembles and installs metal ductwork and piping according to specifications and code. 12. Wires and connects motors, compressors, temperature controls and humidity controls according to wiring schematics if LME licensed. 13. Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments. 14. Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work. 15. Reads complex blueprints, sketches, schematics and wiring/piping diagrams. 16. Maintains electronic/pneumatic testing equipment, as well as other tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items and equipment is in safe operating condition. 17. Performs brazing, soldering, pipefitting, welding and fabrication. 18. Performs basic heat load/loss calculations. 19. Estimates time, cost, materials and scheduling requirements as necessary for completion of work projects/assignments. 20. Maintains accurate maintenance records as required by District, State and EPA, including time and cost for each job completed. 21. Meets with contractors and engineers for the purpose of discussing problems with new installations and future projects. 22. Requisitions material and supplies. Calls vendors for the purposes of ordering parts and supplies. 23. Responds to emergency calls to troubleshoot and repair HVACR equipment and/or systems. 24. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required. 25. Attends work regularly in clean uniform. 26. Occasionally performs work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when work-load requires. 27. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
