Since the Summer of 2018, The Harlem Opera Festival has presented – in alternating years – recent winners of the Harlem Opera Theater or Opera Ebony's annual vocal competitions. Join us this year as we welcome recent winners of the Harlem Opera Theater's vocal competition. REGISTER TO RESERVE A FREE CHAIR IN YOUR NAME! The Harlem Opera Festival is free and open to the public. You don't have to register to attend. You do have to register to reserve a free chair in your name. The Jackie Robinson Park Bandshell is ready for the artists! A graduate of New Jersey City and Montclair State Universities, Andrew Darling is in demand for his vocal artistry in a variety of styles. He has appeared with Kathleen Battle, and had the honor of performing in the Si parla si canta Italian Opera mentoring program. A graduate of Stetson University and Morgan State University, Edward Washington II has performed with Orlando Opera, Central Florida Lyric Opera, Opera Orlando, International Festival of the Voice, the New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. A Ghanaian-American graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, Kofi Hayford has performed with The Metropolitan Opera Guild, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the United Nations Symphony Orchestra, and others. A graduate of Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music, Malaika Sims Alvaro has appeared with the National Hungarian Orchestra, the Mexican National Orchestra, the New York Lyric Opera Theater, and the National Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of Oakwood University and the University of Kentucky, Markel Reed has performed with The Metropolitan Opera, Bronx Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Louisiane, and Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and the Mannes College of Music, Victoria Davis has welcomed the First Lady of Russia with President and Mrs. Obama, sung in the Washington National Opera’s Juneteenth celebration, and with Opera Susquehanna. Accompanist - Gregory Henry Hopkins is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in voice from Temple University, Master's Degree in opera from Curtis Institute of Music, and doctoral degree in music from Belford University. As a singer, pianist, organist, choral conductor, teacher and clinician, Dr. Gregory Hopkins has traveled throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and The Middle East, with recent performances including The Cervantino Festival (Mexico), and festivals as Umbria Jazz (Italy), Jazz a Vienne (France) and JazzVitoria (Spain). Harlem Presents currently has three programs: HarlemWeen; The Harlem Hoedown; and The Harlem Opera Festival .
