Join us for a talk and the release of our book about western artist Edward Borein. The life and art of Edward Borein is the subject of our new book by author B. Byron Price, one of the foremost writers on the art of the American West. EDWARD BOREIN: ETCHED BY THE WEST Please join us in for the book signing and author lecture to celebrate the historic release of this special publication. The Book The 336-page work, the first scholarly treatment of the artist, includes more than 400 images, many never published. The book describes Borein’s path from itinerant vaquero to successful illustrator to revered recorder and interpreter of the vanishing West. About the Speaker Prior to his recent retirement, Mr. Price was Director of the Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. He is the former director of the Panhandle–Plains Historical Museum, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. The Exhibition The talk is held in conjunciton witht the exhibition, Borein and His Circle of Friends, which honors one of Santa Barbara’s most celebrated citizens and artists, Edward Borein and his many artist friends. Among the artists featured are Carl Oscar Borg, Colin Campbell Cooper, Maynard Dixon, Frank Tenney Johnson, John Marshall Gamble, Alexander Harmer, Fernand Lungren, Thomas Moran, and Charles M. Russell. For this occasion, a Santa Barbara has family generously loaned twenty-five of his watercolors, showcased in the Borein Gallery. The exhibition is on view September 22- January 22. It was created and organized by Marlene R. Miller. Our Mission is to inspire meaningful connections to Santa Barbara history.
