Description

Darryl Burton wrongly convicted of murder in his twenties was freed from prison in 2008 & shares his faith journey as our Keynote speaker. Darryl Burton clearly understands injustice, poverty and division among racial lines. At the age of 22 Darryl was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life in prison for a crime he did not commit. He served nearly twenty-five years in prison as an innocent man. He spent most of those hours in the prison llaw library, determined to prove his innocence. Darryl wrote more than 700 letters to members of the government and non-profit organizations to plead his case. But it wasn't until he allowed Christ into his life that he began to experience a change. Darryl discovered anger and hate could also be a prison. Now, a free man Darryl teaches the world about forgiveness, redemption, and hope even in the most desperate situations. Today, Darryl serves as an Associate Pastor at The United Methodist Church of th Ressurection where he leads a weekly "Healing hurts" class for men on how to overcome their past and move forward. Darryl is also the co-founder of Miracle of Innocense, the only innocence organization in the country. founded by experience. For over 20 years, Beverly Wittenborn, Ethel Brewer, Dick Holdman, Clark Eschliman have chaired this committee with added support from Ed Roche, Scott Case, Robin Miller, Tim Keeton, Karen Hooven and Ruth Nelson to bring the community a nondenominational morning of reflection and renewal open to all within the Olathe community.
