Description

YOU ARE NOT ALONE: An evening of Hope & Inspiration for those living with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease Join YOPD Mentoring (an LDBF Exercise and Wellness program), Parkinson's Foundation Georgia and the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Georgia for an inspirational evening featuring Bill Bucklew, diagnosed with YOPD at age 43. Bill rose to fame when he walked across America to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease (see bio information below). The symposium also features a panel of experts, who together with you, will explore the unique challenges YOPD individuals often face, as well as discuss the treatment options and resources available to people living with YOPD and their families. About the Keynote Speaker Bill Bucklew was diagnosed in 2012, at the age of 43, with YOPD, after seven years of misdiagnosis. In 2017, Bill formed the nonprofit UnCorked Adventures, whose first event had Bill walking coast to coast across America. This first walk almost didn’t happen. Some of the world’s foremost experts, strongly advised Bill that he couldn't physically do it, eventually withdrawing their support altogether. Despite this, Bill pushed ahead on his own and successfully completed the trek on January 31, 2018, in 67 days, averaging 40 miles per day, without a break. He raised a significant amount of money for research and reached over 20 million people through 50+ television/media interviews.
