Screening+Discussion of Embers hosted by Prakshi Malik and Alfred Sanders
EMBERS is a short film about the school-to-prison pipeline, where two mothers face a racist high school administration after their sons were maced. The film is written and directed by Prakshi Malik, and grew from her time working at a Public High School in the Twin Cities.
Embers has been featured on PBS Short Film Festival, Black Harvest Film Festival and others. Link to watch Embers
Prakshi Malik and Alfred Sanders, who has worked with Special Ed students for many years, have created a Film Discussion Guide so Embers can be used as a tool to start conversations about institutional racism, SROs and the school to prison pipeline.
Join us for a casual workshop on Sep 8 at Black Table Arts where we will screen Embers and facilitate a conversation using the Discussion Guide. This workshop is for community educators and leaders already working against systemic racism.
We look forward to sharing the guide and welcome any feedback you may have! After the workshop, please consider bringing this to the communities you work with if you think these tools will be helpful.
This project is supported by a RACE Exhibition Mini-Grant from the Science Museum of MN.
Limited Capacity: 30 people
We will give $50 gift cards to the first 20 attendees.
