Have you ever tasted wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape? Domaine de La Solitude Seated & guided tasting with Michael BouchardThursday, September 9, 6 pm at Wine Republic* free wine club members | $10 non members The Lançon family, owners of Domaine de la Solitude, descend directly from the 12th Century Barberini family of Rome. The best known of the family, Maffeo Barberini, was a papal nuncio, or diplomatic representative, in Paris from 1604 to 1606, and was made Pope in Rome under the name Pope Urban VIII. Two of his nephews became cardinals and a part of the family then settled down in Avignon. In the 1980s, brothers Michel and Jean Lançon took the future of Domaine de la Solitude in their hands, focusing attention on the vineyards. Over the past several years, Michel’s son Florent Lançon has taken over the day-to-day operations of Domaine de la Solitude, continuing to make improvements while preserving the traditions of his father and uncle. Domaine de la Solitude Côtes du Rhône Blanc, 2020 60% Clairette, 30% Viognier, 10% Grenache Blanc. A nose of citrus and apricot mixed with white flowers. A round and welcoming palate with a fresh and vibrant finish. Clairette brings freshness with citrus zest, Viognier aromatic richness, roundness, Grenache notes of white flowers. Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Tradition, 2019 Accolades: 93/100 – Decanter 90/100 – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “Powerful, full-bodied style. The oak is quite prominent (fermented and aged in 40% new barriques), there’s a little nip on the finish and a toasty touch to the aromas. It’s bold but it’s not overly intense, and it brings more than it takes away. Great impact, this will work well with food. Not a wine that needs to age, just enjoy its youthful vibrancy. Drinking Window 2020 – 2024” – Decanter “A blend of 40% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, 20% Grenache Blanc and the rest a mix of Bourboulenc and Picpoul, Solitude’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc boasts subtle notes of pencil shavings and toasted hazelnuts set against a backdrop of ripe pear and melon. Medium to full-bodied, it’s slightly creamy in texture on the palate, ending with additional nuttiness balanced by hints of citrus. Forty percent of the wine spent time in barriques for 10 months, and it shows.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Tasting Notes: Complex nose of tropical fruit and brioche. The palate combines vivacity and smoothness with notes of citrus, tropical fruit and flowers with a very mineral finish. Domaine de la Solitude Côtes du Rhône Rouge, 2019 Blend of 50% Grenache Noir, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. The grapes are sorted and destemmed then vinified in concrete vats with macerations of about 25 days. The wines are aged in concrete and stainless-steel vats for 1 year. A beautiful ruby color followed by an intense nose of red fruits with hints of black pepper and spices from Syrah. A supple and greedy mouth with a tannic structure while finesse. Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, 2019 Historical Cuvée from the Domaine produced since the XVII century, from all our vineyards on safres and Gallets roullés. A blend of terroir and grape varieties of excellence it contains the 8 reds grapes varieties of A.O.C. and even some white or pink grape in small proportion: 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Cinsault. A bouquet nose of garrigue, flowers of citrus, blackcurrant buds.
